About
Jacob Shin

End-to-end ownership. Software with human impact.

Software engineer at Curious Cardinals, an ed-tech mentorship marketplace in San Francisco — joining full-time after graduating Berkeley.

I want to build software that's rigorous and matters — removing friction so people can focus on the work only they can do.

Open science meets orange skies: K-12 educators' engagement with computational notebooks to explore scientific events with human impacts

Michelle H. Wilkerson, Jung Min Shin (Jacob Shin), Sun Young Ban

NSF-funded research with the Show Your Work project: how do K–12 teachers actually engage with computational notebooks when the data is local and personal?

We studied 8 teachers working with air quality data from Orange Skies Day — the September 2020 wildfire smoke event that turned the Bay Area sky red.

Found three modes of interaction: interpreting the phenomenon, working with the dataset, or integrating both. Implications for teacher education and computational literacy.
